Animation & Virtual Reality
This is my animation demo reel.
This is the time lapse animation of a bean plant I created for the 2012 Cold Spring Harbor Symposium. I created and animated the bean plant. One of my AV co-workers composited the 3D material against his own hand and added the title for the finished product.
This is the 10-second intro I made for the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Symposium on Metabolism and Disease. I researched metabolism for a refresher on the processes involved (haven't had biology lessons since college) and then sought to construct something that was relevant and fun to watch. Various phases and redesigns aside, I settled on this final concept: a figure with matchsticks for limbs that runs and jumps over hurdles while combusting. The hurdles are the letters ATP and NADH, which are two of the most common compounds in metabolism. These compounds transport the energy produced in the catabolic processes to their consumption in the anabolic processes. Placing the catabolic and anabolic representations in front of and behind (respectively) the running figure presented a convenient method of creating and eliminating the ATP and NADH hurdles from the scene while demonstrating the relevant metabolic pathway. The flames can be interpreted as representing overall metabolic processes. Alternately, a different interpretation for the flames could be the damage from diseased metabolic processes, as the runner can be interpreted as running in the wrong direction in the pathway.
